Brewing beer made simple
Using these recipes, follow the methods outlined under brewing.
Extract Best Bitter 4.6% makes 20 litres
This is a straight forward best bitter. Nice colour, nice bitterness. Nice.
Place the crushed crystal malt grains in muslin bag and immerse in the brewing water in a boiler or large pan / stock pot. Use 10 to 15 litres of water or as much as you can fit into your pan(s). Steep the grains for an hour at about 65 degrees C. Remove the bag of grains before bringing to the boil and adding the first lot of hops.

200g Crushed Crystal Malt

40g Goldings (90 minutes)
40g Fuggles (90 minutes)
10g Goldings (15 minutes)
10g Fuggles (15 minutes)
90 minutes indicates hops added at the start of a 90 minute boil. 15 minutes indicates hops added 15 minutesfrom the end of the boil, along with finings such as Protafloc or Irish Moss. Pour the liquid, through a seive or hop filter, into a brew bin and make up to 20 litres with cold water. When cool enough, add the ale yeast as per pack instructions.
